I don't have the money to buy from the 'trendiest' shops on the high street like Topshop or even H&M, even though I'd love to! And over the past year or so I've banned myself from Primark as I wanted to try and stop buying cheap stuff that doesn't last...

I like clothes to be cheap but reasonable quality, comfortable, colourful, pretty...I like that you can get cheap versions of very on-trend patterns and styles at these shops...but I also yearn to be able to spend that bit more on real quality items...
However, with the fast-changing and seasonal nature of true fashion, I can't see that I would ever always be 'on trend'...it seems like once you've bought an outfit or pair of shoes, the season is over and you need to invest in another pair of boots or flats...because the next year they are not in fashion so you have to then them....

I need to make a list for myself of things that I need/want to add to my wardrobe when I have a bit of spare cash.... I will need to start with bras and tights! Exciting!

I'm definitely with you on this. I LOVE some of the dresses in Primark but they go all bobbly and horrible which makes me sad, but I can't find what I like/can't afford stuff from other shops! And although I might find a few quality items that I really like, I am quite fickle and something I love one minute I can't stand the next, so its hard to buy "investment" pieces. Not least because of the delightful tendency of my body to change size and shape from one month to the next!!! For a sound investment in shoes though you can't go wrong with a pair of Dr Martens! Last forever, super comfy and look awesome :)
I agree with you here, keeping up with 'trends' is expensive and time-consuming! If I want something that's 'in fashion' at the moment but doesn't look like it will last, I'll buy it from somewhere like Primark where it doesn't matter too much if it doesn't get a lot of wear. But I do tend to ignore the trends and just buy good quality items that I like and that suit me! xx
